I first went here when I saw the Sourdough French Toast on the menu. Was a disappointment: it's not sour at all. But dinners have been good; we always order the spinach salad with lardons, which is consistently excellent. Went last Sunday for brunch again, and the burger was unexpectedly great. Ordered it medium-rare, and was cooked perfectly. My only complaint is that it's supposed to come with mushrooms, and it did, but I counted a total of 4 pieces of mushroom. Oh well. I'll definitely go back, and maybe ask for extra mushrooms...

The food was nothing special, but what I witnessed a staff do made me swear never to go back: While I was waiting to use the restroom, I saw one of the bus boys sneeze into his bare, ungloved hand, then immediately proceed to grab a few muffins with the same soiled hand and stick them in the basket. Disgusting. I mean, I know that stuff goes on all the time, but don't do it in front of the customers, for chrissake!

This is one of the only restaurants in the neighborhood that's consistent, well-priced, and very good. The sushi is good, and all of the donburis are excellent. The (hot) soba broth can be a bit salty, so I recommend getting it cold.

And the staff, even when harried by crowds, are always so, so sweet.

We've been here a few times, and the first time was great. I had the spaetzle--which is consistently good--and the rabbit, which was good. But the second time, I ordered the French Dip, and despite reviews to the contrary, it was disgusting. The beef was grey and mealy. 'Nuff said.

It's the best fish and chips in NYC. But don't go to the Chip Shop on Atlantic: it's terrible and doesn't compare to the Park Slope one.

After reading Andrea Strong's stark-raving-mad-for-it review of this place, I thought it was going to be great. And judging from the crowd that came in around 8PM tonight, they thought so too. The brussel sprouts were well-braised, and I enjoyed the poached egg and pieces of pork that accompanied it. The sunchoke soup that Strong raves about was well done, but nothing exciting. But my entree—the tilefish with figs and cipollini in a pignoli broth—was bland. My bf ordered the house special, the porchetta, and found it a delicious piece of pork, but the accompanying tomatoes and mint leaves on top clashed with the meat. Finally, the Nutella-filled chocolate torta had such a strong burnt taste that it overwhelmed any chocolate or hazelnut flavor the dish was supposed to have. Oh well. Back to Chestnut.
